Today was the Entrance Ceremony for both the junior and senior high schools.

On their first day as new first-years, students looked both a bit nervous and excited as they searched for their names on the new class lists. Entering the school building, they were greeted by members of the student council, changed into their brand new slippers. Many students swiveled their heads left to right, as if searching for a familiar face, while making their way to their seats.

Once the students were all seated for the ceremony, it was easy to see just how much change occurs during the three years of junior high. The new senior high students, who have just experienced that change themselves, are now setting out on their way to adulthood.

The student representatives for the junior and senior high school offered very heart-felt words of gratitude and excitement. Their transcripts are available above in Japanese.

After the ceremony, the students returned to their classrooms for their first home room periods. Everyone’s expressions were a little more relaxed that they had been in the morning as they listed to their homeroom teachers speak.

The home room periods ended and the students, along with their parents, began to leave the buildings. They were quite surprised to be greeted with the cheerful and perhaps even desperate calls from students from various clubs, each beckoning them to join as a new member.

We teachers watched smiling as the new first-years left campus with a bit of a bounce in their step, and returned to get ready for the Dormitory Orientation later this evening.

To all the new junior and senior high students joining us here at Waseda Saga: Welcome.

We hope that the days to come are full of new friends and challenges.
