On Saturday, July 18, the annual Hachitaro Festival was held at the dormitory. Around 760 dormitory students, from first-year junior high school students to third-year high school students, took part in the event, along with their families, faculty and staff members, and members of the local community.

The festival would not be possible each year without the understanding and support of the local community, whose members have always warmly watched over and supported our students. We were once again deeply grateful for the cooperation of so many people and were reminded of the warmth of the connections we share with our local community.

The first part of the festival was a barbecue held in the parking area next to Building 1. With plenty of delicious food, including grilled meat, yakisoba, rice balls, salad, and watermelon, the students enjoyed chatting with their friends and spending a lively afternoon together.

The second part was a bingo tournament organized by the Hachitaro Association, the dormitory students’ own student organization. The students eagerly competed for exciting prizes, and the venue was filled with cheers and laughter.

Later that evening, the students also gathered to watch fireworks launched from a nearby beach. Some of them tried to capture the beautiful fireworks in photographs, while others simply took in the view and treasured the precious moment. It’s special summer nights like these that will remain in our memories forever.

One of the dormitory staff members shared that he hopes that the students will continue to make many wonderful memories and come to think of Karatsu as their second home.

The Hachitaro Festival is more than just a fun summer event – it is a special opportunity for students to strengthen their bonds of friendship and community, and to create unforgettable memories during their time in Karatsu.

We are already looking forward to next year’s Hachitaro Festival!
